Becoming a Better Creative
Welcome to my creative journey. I’ve been on this expedition for a few years now, but I still feel very much like I am still at the beginning. The goal of this blog is to share my thoughts about many different topics around creativity as well as life. Things that I want to try to implement into my process, as well as things I am currently implementing. My goal is to make you think of your own life and creative process in new ways like I am constantly doing. Sometimes this reflection will bring changes, and other times it will confirm that the current path is working.
One key area I believe that will help me become a better creative is to always be learning and trying new things. I am a believer in the growth mindset, and that learning and being open to new things is one of our greatest assets. Being open to new ideas will help me navigate an ever-changing creative landscape. As well as inspire new ideas for my art.
Balance is another big topic I have been thinking about within my creative journey. This will look different for everyone, and it will look different at different times of the year and at different stages of the journey. For me, finding balance is about being able to keep up with my current projects, but also allowing time to explore other creative avenues. I am also a big fan of resting. Taking time off each day or week is important to recharge my creative battery.
Along with balance, and to be always learning, I think it is important to have a life outside of creating. This can be learning things that have nothing to do with my art. It also means spending time with friends and family. I often come back from hanging out with others with tons of new fresh ideas. These ideas often feel more original and organic because they weren’t inspired by someone else’s creative work but by real life interactions. Between the coronavirus pandemic and moving to a new city, I have spent too much time indoors alone working. I am hoping to get out and expand my world more.
Being a creative is a never-ending journey, there is no finish line. You never arrive. It is constantly evolving and changing. What has worked in the past may not continue to be the right answer moving forward. My goal is not to get stuck, but to constantly reflect on my process and my life. See what new things I can try and learn. I don’t want to pretend like I have anything figured out. I am just someone sharing my journey to becoming a better creative.
